As a supporting blogger with the Love/Avon Army of Women, I’m taking this Cancer Warriors Wednesday to remind everyone of the importance of joining this important initiative. The AOW is looking for one million women with breast cancer, women who have never had breast cancer, and men of all ethnicities – basically anyone over the age of 18.
The mission of the AOW is to partner volunteers with researchers seeking to unlock the key to preventing breast cancer and end this disease once and for all. It’s easy to join the AOW and get involved in potentially life saving research:
Step 1: Register as a volunteer with the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation’s Army of Women Program. By registering, you are indicating your interest in learning about active research studies in need of volunteers.
Step 2: You will receive email updates from the AOW announcing new research studies looking for volunteers just like you. The email will detail the research project and who and what the researchers need. If you fit the criteria and you’d like to participate, all you need to do is click “Yes Sign Me Up.” This lets us know you’ve accepted the “Call to Action.” From there, you will be asked to log-in to your account and then directed to the next steps.
Step 3: If you accept the Call to Action by clicking “Yes, Sign Me Up,” you will be asked a couple of screening questions to make sure you qualify for the study. Once it is confirmed that you qualify for the specific study, your information will be given to the researcher conducting the study and you will be contacted by the researcher for a secondary screening to make sure you meet the study criteria and answer any questions you might have about study participation. You will never be pressured to take part in any study. The decision to take part is yours – and yours alone.
Step 4: If you meet the study criteria as determined by the researcher and are interested in taking part, the study researcher will let you know what you need to do next.
The groundbreaking idea behind the AOW is simple: connect breast cancer researchers via the internet with women and men willing to participate in a wide variety of research studies. There is no cost to participants and participation in the actual studies is entirely voluntary. I’m proud to be a supporting blogger and member of the AOW. Please consider joining the Army of Women today. Someday you might get the opportunity to be part of a research study which helps us understand how to prevent this disease.
Survival > Existence,
Debbie
